The Visual Sound Bath: Leonarda Boughton’s Immersive Installation Using SOLYX® SXP Films
Every so often, a customer shows us a project that uses our products in a unique and creative way. The Visual Sound Bath, a public art installation by visual artist and sound therapist Leonarda Boughton, is one of those projects.
Installed in the skybridge that connects the parking lot to the main terminal at Duluth International Airport (DLH), The Visual Sound Bath transforms a transitional space into a colorful, light-shaping experience. To bring her vision to life, Leonarda chose Decorative Film's SOLYX® SXP Translucent Colored Films, employing our vibrant array of stock films to create a therapeutic experience for travelers.
An Immersive Moment in Transit
Designed to be accessible and inviting to all, the installation located in the enclosed skybridge at DLH is free and open to the public at all hours. As sunlight moves across the bridge, the translucent colored films refract and transmit light, casting shifting hues and patterns across the space. This visual is paired with a motion-activated "sound bath," — a harmonious symphony of chimes, inviting travelers to pause, look up, and notice their surroundings.
The Material:
SOLYX® SXP Translucent Colored Films
For the vibrant color effects in the skybridge, Leonarda used Decorative Films' SOLYX® SXP Translucent Colored Films.
About the medium:
- Translucent, optically clear, colored polyester film with a scratch-resistant, protective coating
- Gloss surface for crisp, luminous color transmission
- Created for high-quality lighted displays, stained glass-style designs, window graphics, and back-lit glass surfaces
- Available in 25 gloss colors that can be superimposed to create an almost infinite color palette
By layering and arranging these SXP films along the skybridge, Leonarda was able to transform plain glass panels into a light-reactive canvas, building rich, overlapping color effects as the light changes.
Amazing job, Leonarda! We look forward to seeing more of your work as you continue to make beautiful art.
